Vance S. Martin, PhD is an instructional designer at Parkland College. He works with other faculty to help them redesign courses, or to integrate technology into their teaching. Over the past 15 years he has taught courses in history, humanities, education, technology, and action research. His research looks at technology use in education, social justice, and the intersection of the two.
His dissertation looked at wiki usage in community college history classes, and how minority students were more engaged, questioning standard historical narratives. He worked on the redesign of teacher education programs at the University of Illinois as well as higher education leadership programs at the National Center for Professional and Research Ethics. He has also worked on a collaborative international project to bring secondary content to students in KwaZulu Natal via cell phones.
